Q:
A:
Should I take the ACT or SAT?
Both tests are equally accepted by colleges / universities but each poses a unique set of challenges. First, you should figure out which test you naturally do better in. Take a practice test of each and compare your results to see which one feels like the better fit.

When should I start preparing?
It's never too early or too late to start preparing. The ideal time to start is the summer before your junior year to give you enough time to master the skills and strategies before the test. Remember, these tests don't measure intelligence - they measure the amount of time you spend preparing and practicing.

Q:
How much time should I spend?
Most students should dedicate at least 3 months to preparing for the exam - and take the test 3 times. It takes time to learn ACT concepts and master ACT strategies - and it requires ample practice!

Step 1:
Establish Their Target Score
Our first step is to come up with concrete goals for your student's overall target score and individual section scores. Target scores are determined by scores needed for competitive admission into desired colleges. Some students may only need to improve in one area of the test to reach their goal, while others may need prep in all 4 areas. In either case, a student's target score will shape the amount of prep (and type of prep) that best suits their situation.
Step 2:
Create a Study Plan
An important aspect of effective test prep is keeping students motivated while holding them accountable to their goals. To make this possible, we create a structured study plan that works with their personal schedule as well as a timeline for their goals.
Step 3:
Determine Specific Areas For Improvement
Every student faces a unique set of challenges when taking the ACT. Together, we work to uncover exactly where/when/how/why your student's unique breakdowns occur. Mistakes provide extremely useful information and students will learn to see them as invaluable keys to raising their score.
Step 4:
Targeted Instruction
There really is no one-size-fits-all solution to the ACT. Strategies are customized to fit a student's existing framework of thought so as to promote their natural strengths and abilities. Every outside resource, every piece of homework, every lesson is given with the intention of capitalizing on their biggest gains.
Step 5:
Assess Before The Test
To measure progress, students will take full-length practice tests throughout the tutoring process. Simulated (timed) practice tests are like gold when it comes to preparing for the real deal and uncovering areas for improvement.
